Ben Kweller + Sleeper Agent + Noah Gundersen at Wonder Ballroom

Overall

  • Friday night. First Press passes into a show (thank you Music Scene PDX). Guess that means we’re for reals now.
  • Nicest bouncer in the history of Wonder Ballroom.
  • Wonder was pretty empty…where are all the Ben Kweller fans out there? Methinks the ticket price was too high.
Noah Gundersen
  • Singer/song writer with his guitar and his sister, Abby.
  • His songs were captivating, the crowd was dead silent during the performance. So quiet that my heels clicking on the hard wood floors felt so loud and distracting.
  • While the music was pretty and his voice was great, the genre didn’t quite match the rest of the night.

Sleeper Agent

  • Lights! Energy! Let’s do this!
  • Hands down the best opening band we’ve seen so far this year.
  • “This band could be the headliner” - RM
  • Lead singer Alex is bad ass.
  • Need to add volume to your hair? Go see this band live. Who has an achy neck today? C does.
  • Required hair length to be in this band: 8 inches +.
  • XX cover was a nice touch to a super tight set.
  • Will definitely see this band again. They rock way harder live than you would expect from their record.
  • Percent of crowd made into fans from this performance: 75% (includes us)

Ben Kweller

  • Um hi, crowd. Get it together and respect what is happening on stage. It’s called clapping if you like something and dancing if the music inspires you. And it’s Friday night. Why are all of you texting/tweeting/whatevering on your phones?
  • BK, we like your dog/wolf shirt. We also like you better with the electric guitar.
  • Highlights: Falling. Walk on Me. 
  • So good we didn’t want to take notes. So we barely took any notes.
  • How did the crowd turn into 90% men?
  • Closed set with “Wasted and Ready.” Fantastic.

In Conclusion

We give this show 15 stars. One star for Sleeper Agent bringing it. One star for lady lead singers who rock. One star for an opening band that is actually good. One star for Ben Kweller playing all our favorite jams. Five stars for getting goose bumps during Ben Kweller’s performance. Minus one star for a lame Friday night crowd. Five stars for press passes through Music Scene PDX. One star for the Sleeper Agent keyboardist not falling on his head. Two stars for the girls next to us who were having a good time. Minus one star for different girl not washing her hands after going to the bathroom. Gross.`
